Melanie Ann Peterson

Augusta, GA…..Ms. Melanie Ann Peterson, 72, lovingly remembered as Mel, entered into rest on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at Piedmont Augusta.

Mel was born in Lansing, MI to Donald and the late Viola Koski Bath. She graduated from Midland High School and went on to study at Northern Michigan University. Following her time in school she embarked on a 30 year career as a paraprofessional with the Midland County School System, working exclusively with children that had special needs. She had a special gift for working with these children and she truly loved her job. This was further evidenced in the countless children and families that she touched across her 30 years. These children were so important to her that she cared for many of them in her own home over the years. Helping children and their families was her first love. When she wasn’t helping humans, she could be found enjoying wildlife and trying to tame wild animals, cats, and an occasional raccoon. She enjoyed fishing and just being outdoors. Mel liked to play the lottery as well because….”well you just never know”

She is survived by her sons, John Yardley of Alma, MI, and Aaron Yardley of Oregon; her daughter, Christina Hon of Evans, GA; her grandchildren, Haley Yardley, Luka Yardley, Clara Yardley, Isaiah Yardley, Chase Hon and Reed Hon; her siblings, Jennifer Braman (Mark) and Randall Bath; special friends, Jeannine Dirette, Nancy Kettelhohn, and Alice Rogers.

She was preceded in death by her son, Bradley Peterson; her sister, Linda Bath Marini; and her brother, William Bath.
